You will see from above that Kodak changes the edge marking when they have published a date range to a new date. Sound Negatives and colour print stocks no longer have edge printing because it would cause problems with digital sound tracks that are positioned on the outside of the perforations. need to take care when identifying film date codes. Also some of the early symbols vary and can be difficult to identify.
The samples below show the difference betweeb the 1st and 3rd Quarter. Also the samples show an edge code that often causes problems. Without looking closely it appears to be two circles US 1919, 1939 0r 1959, looking closer it is actually a circle and a cross US 1931, 1951 or 1971.
